ADAS Recalibration After Windshield Replacement in Wichita, KS
If your vehicle has a camera or sensor at the windshield for features such as automatic emergency braking, a replacement can require calibration so those features work as designed. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety said so on February 15, 2023. Not every car has that equipment. Call and we'll connect you with an independent local auto glass pro in Wichita, Kansas. Ask them whether your vehicle needs calibration and who does it.

Which cars have a windshield camera
IIHS discussed vehicles with front crash prevention, blind spot detection, or cameras that improve visibility. Many of those features use a camera behind the windshield. Many older cars do not. Ask the pro to check your vehicle, or check the owner's manual. This page does not keep a model list.
What IIHS reported
The February 15, 2023 IIHS article says crash-avoidance features are harder to repair after crash damage or a windshield replacement. IIHS surveyed owners of vehicles with those features. Among people who said at least one system had been repaired for any reason, about half said they had issues with the features after the job. Most of the more than 3,000 owners contacted said they had never needed those features repaired.
The article says repairs can make it necessary to calibrate the cameras and sensors. It gives an example that a simple windshield replacement can cost as little as $250, and it says a separate HLDI study found vehicles with front crash prevention were much more likely to have glass claims of $1,000 or more, with much of the higher cost likely related to calibration. Those figures are IIHS and HLDI research from that article. They are not a quote from a Wichita shop, and they are not our price. Label them as a third-party research note.
The article does not say that a small misalignment always ruins the system. We do not add that claim. It does say calibration is part of making the features work properly after a repair.
What to ask in Wichita
Ask whether your car needs calibration after the glass is replaced, whether the pro does that work or sends the car somewhere else, and whether you will get something in writing that the calibration was completed. Ask for that as its own line on the quote so it is not a surprise. How the price comes together.
Static and dynamic calibration are shop procedures. We did not load an automaker procedure, so this page does not explain which one your car uses. The pro, or the dealer the pro names, should follow the vehicle maker's steps.
What to ask the pro
- Does this vehicle have a camera or sensor tied to the windshield?
- Is calibration included in the written quote?
- Who performs it, and will I get a record that it was done?
- If I use insurance, does the shop-choice law still let me pick the company? See K.S.A. 40-2,155.

Ask the pro for a written record. This site does not receive that record and does not confirm the work.
Does this site do the work?
No. This site connects callers with independent local pros. It does not do the work itself.
