How side and rear glass differ from a windshield
K.S.A. 8-1741(b) treats a damaged front windshield and damaged side or rear windows the same way when the damage substantially obstructs the driver's clear view. A broken side window is still a different job from a windshield: the pro has to match the opening, and a rear window may have defroster lines. Ask the pro whether the glass can be repaired or only replaced. We did not load a standard that sets a repair size for side glass, so we do not guess.
Windshield replacement is a separate page. A camera at the windshield is an ADAS question, and it may not apply to a door window. Ask.
A broken window right now
Keep children and pets away from broken glass. Do not leave loose glass where someone can step or kneel on it. Ask the pro whether cleanup is included and whether they want you to tape anything in place before they arrive. We do not give a temporary-cover method, because we did not load a safety standard for one.
Insurance and choosing a shop
K.S.A. 40-2,155 covers motor vehicle glass replacement and glass repair, not only windshields. An insurer may not require a particular shop. The Kansas Insurance Department guide says auto glass coverage provides partial or full coverage of a damaged or broken windshield. It does not, in the lines we read, spell out door glass. Ask your insurer whether a side or rear window is included and what the deductible is. Full insurance page.
What to ask the pro
- Can this glass be repaired, or does it need replacement?
- Are rear defroster lines included?
- Is cleanup of broken glass included?
- Is there a separate charge if the pro comes to the car? Mobile service.
- Ask about licensing and insurance. This site claims neither.

Questions
Can a side window be repaired, or only replaced?
Ask the pro after they see it. We do not have a loaded standard that draws that line for door glass.
Does insurance cover a broken car window?
Ask your insurer. The state guide we read describes auto glass coverage for a damaged or broken windshield and does not detail door glass in that sentence.
Can I choose my own glass shop in Kansas?
Yes. K.S.A. 40-2,155 says the insurer may not require a particular company for glass replacement or repair, with the list and bid rules explained on the insurance page.
Does this site do the work?
No. This site connects callers with independent local pros. It does not do the work itself.
Do you charge me?
No. Calling us is free, and there's no cost to get connected. Leave a message and we'll connect you with an independent local auto glass pro, who quotes and bills you directly. Local pros may pay us to advertise here. We don't add anything to your price.
How much will it cost?
The independent pro quotes you directly. This site does not set the price.
